Author, artist, mentor and long-time friend of the SCBWI, Bruce Degen, has died following a long illness. He was 79.

Veteran editor and author Deborah Halverson presents a rich snapshot of the children’s publishing industry and marketplace, including book sales and acquisition trends, imprint launches and closures, developments in AI and book banning, and the latest on the middle grade market. SCBWI Brings Star-Studded Lineup to White House’s “HalloREAD” Event, Inspiring Young Readers and Families Nationwide Washington, D.C., October 30, 2024 – In an enchanting fusion of literature and Halloween magic, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) took center stage at this year’s White House “HalloREAD” event.

Esteemed author and educator Lore Segal, who wrote and translated clever and sunny children’s tales alongside the autobiographical adult stories and novels informed by her early life as a Jewish refugee during WWII, died on October 7 at her home in Manhattan. She was 96.

SCBWI is thrilled to announce the election of Laurent Linn as president of its board of directors. Linn assumes this role effective immediately. He has been involved with SCBWI for over 22 years as faculty at global and regional conferences, a member of the SCBWI Advisory Council, and a committee member responsible for planning illustrator programming at global conferences.
